René Gruau (1909-2004) was a celebrated French fashion illustrator known for his exceptional talent in capturing the essence of haute couture and elegance. His work is characterized by its minimalistic yet expressive style, often using bold lines and limited color palettes to convey the spirit of fashion and luxury. While Gruau is most famous for his fashion illustrations and collaborations with prestigious fashion houses like Dior and Givenchy, he also created travel posters that exuded the same sense of glamour and sophistication.

The French Riviera, also known as the Côte d'Azur, is renowned for its stunning Mediterranean coastline, glamorous resorts, and vibrant cultural scene. It is celebrated for its beautiful beaches, luxurious resorts like Nice and Cannes, picturesque towns such as Saint-Tropez and Antibes, and a climate that attracts visitors year-round. The region is also known for its artistic heritage, with numerous artists, including Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall, having been inspired by its landscapes and light. Many artists, including the famous poster artist A.M. Cassandre, have created travel posters that capture the allure of the French Riviera, promoting it as a destination for relaxation, leisure, and artistic inspiration.
